Luis Diaz, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, at the age of 93. Born on September 24, 1928, in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico, Luis was part of a large family, including 17 brothers and 1 sister. After being raised in Puerto Rico, he eventually moved to New York where he later became a butcher. Luis was happily married to the love of his life, Bienvenida, for many years until her passing in July of 2014. Together they raised two sons, Elijio Roldan and Rafael Diaz. In the late 1980s, Luis moved to Grand Rapids, MI to live amongst relatives. He was a devoted member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed time with loved ones, reading the Bible, spending time outside, and taking long walks for exercise. Luis was predeceased by his son, Rafael and wife, Bienvenida. He is survived by his son, Elijio Roldan; daughter-in-law, Nelia Diaz; and loving grandchildren, Dina Glowacki and husband, Joseph, and Rafael L. Diaz, and wife, Jenna. Most cherished are his great-grandchildren: Jaxon, Eva, Mason and Shaun. Numerous siblings, family members, and friends reside across the states and Puerto Rico. All services will take place on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. A viewing will be held from 11:00 until 12:00 p.m. at Ofield Funeral Home (4500 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Kentwood, MI). A religious service will follow from 12:00 - 1:00. Luis will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland Memorial Park (4341 Cascade Road, S.E., Grand Rapids, MI). Service Details.
