IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorinda Kay
Hauter
January 17, 1949 – February 13, 2026
Lorinda Kay Hauter (née Jackson), aged 77, of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026. Born on January 17, 1949, in Ionia, Michigan, she was a woman of grace, intelligence, and a nurturing spirit that touched the lives of all who knew her.
Educated at Saranac Elementary and Saranac High School, Lorinda furthered her studies at Michigan State University, equipping her with the knowledge and skills that would later define her professional endeavors. She was the esteemed owner of a local bookstore and a typesetting business in Grand Haven, and her professional journey also included valued years at RAM Electronics in Fruitport.
A fervent advocate for the environment, Lorinda's passion for wildlife, especially birds, was reflected in the sanctuary she created in her own backyard. Her commitment to conservation and sustainable living was evident in her actions and advocacy. Mornings in her household were sacred, often beginning with her cherished routine of coffee and peanut butter toast. Lorinda's talents extended beyond her environmental pursuits to her hobbies, which included cooking, crocheting, sewing, and antiques. Her yard was full of native plants which she carefully curated to attract pollinators, so everything was abuzz with birds, bees, and butterflies in the spring until early fall. Lorinda loved music, too. She loved listening to the Beach Boys, Gordon Lightfoot, Rod Stewart, and many others. She purchased a beautiful blue vintage Mustang which she took to local car shows regularly and loved sharing stories with other vintage car enthusiasts. She also enjoyed golfing in her younger years, and she was a keen card player. She was a big fan of the Detroit Lions, the Tigers, the Redwings, and anything MSU Spartans-related.
She leaves behind a loving family: sons James Hauter with his wife Andrea, Jeffrey Hauter with his wife Betsy, and William Hauter; grandchildren Leah, Lewis, Elliott, and Lochlynn; and brothers Steve and Doug Jackson. Lorinda was predeceased by her beloved husband, Craig Hauter, her parents Lewis and Lorraine Jackson, and her brother Brad Jackson.
While a date for the memorial service has yet to be determined, the family suggests that those wishing to honor Lorinda's memory may make contributions to the Ottawa County Humane Society and the Audubon Society.
The Hauter family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at Robbinswood Assisted Living, Trinity Health Hospice - Grand Haven, and Ofield Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance during this time. Lorinda's life was a testament to her love for her family, her community, and the natural world, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
