Lloyd Jeffery
Bell
October 11, 1961 – July 11, 2025
Lloyd "Jeff" Jeffery Bell, a beacon of kindness and joy, passed away on July 11, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on October 14, 1961, in Dowagiac, Michigan, to the late Annie Reece and Floyd Bell Sr., Jeff was a cherished brother, uncle, and friend whose warmth and humor brought light to everyone around him.
Jeff grew up in a loving home, sharing his early years with his siblings, the late Annie Wright and Floyd Bell Jr., his sister Jonnie Tucker, and under the watchful eyes of his parents and beloved stepfather, Dock Reece. The tight-knit family foundation instilled in Jeff the values of love, community, and faith, which he carried throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School, Jeff's dedication to his community was evident in his work with the Benton Harbor Area School District. His commitment to youth and sports was demonstrated through his roles as a score and clock keeper for men's and children's basketball, as well as an umpire for children's baseball. Jeff's involvement with the "Meet Up and Eat Up" program during the summers showcased his passion for ensuring that children had access to nutritious meals and a supportive environment.
Jeff's professional journey also included several positions in the Grand Rapids area, where he continued to impact lives with his unwavering dedication and service to others. His Christian faith was a cornerstone of his existence, guiding him in his daily interactions and in the love he shared with his family and friends.
Beyond his professional and community service contributions, Jeff was known for his vibrant personality and his love for cooking and dancing. As "DJ Jazzy Jeff," he became a well-known figure in the Benton Harbor area, bringing people together with his music and infectious energy. His ability to create joy and laughter was unmatched, and his presence could light up any room.
Jeff leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, which will be carried on by his sister Jonnie Tucker; nieces Sholonda Smith, Sharieka Bell, and Tamela Tucker; brother-in-laws Robert Mincey and Lenell Tucker; 15 great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. His best friend, Tommalee Phipps, will deeply miss the companionship and the countless memories they shared.
Jeff's life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and friendship. He was a friend to many and a stranger to none. His gentle spirit and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Jeff's memory will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been touched by his generosity and joy for life.
As we say farewell to Lloyd "Jeff" Jeffery Bell, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man who was truly one of a kind. His journey on earth may have ended, but his spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those he loved. Jeff's story is not one of sorrow but a beautiful narrative of a life that exemplified kindness, laughter, and genuine friendship. Rest in peace, dear Jeff, until we meet again.
