Linda S. VanderWal of Caledonia, MI at age 70, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones on Feb 10, 2021 after her courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born to Bernard and Helen (Kareckas) Schmidt in Grand Rapids, MI on June 28, 1950. Linda graduated from Union High School in 1968.

Back in the day she enjoyed golfing, fishing and working at Herpolsheimers in downtown Grand Rapids. Recently she was a loyal employee at Menards for 26 years. Linda was a beautiful person inside and out. The kind of person that would give you the shirt off her back. She enjoyed going to the casino, baking, traveling and spending time with her family, and especially her granddaughters. Linda was the kind of grandma that every kid wishes for.

Linda is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years Donald J VanderWal; 2 children: Malaina VanderWal and Donnie (Tammi) VanderWal; 3 beautiful granddaughters: Chloe, Aubrie and Sadie; 5 brothers: Ken (Kelly) Schmidt, Larry (Karen) Schmidt, Marty (Debbie) Schmidt, Ron (Charity) Schmidt, Pat (Melody) Schmidt; 2 sisters: Judy (Jerry) Rice and Sherry (Tom) Bergman; 2 sisters in-law: Donna Schmidt and Sue Schmidt and many, many nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Hank (Jean) VanderWal; 2 brothers: Pete Schmidt and Mike Schmidt, her sister in-law Tina Schmidt and her baby sister Helene Schmidt.

Linda's wish is to have a celebration of life in the spring when it is warm and we can all be together.
