Obituary

Linda Evelyn Boyer (nee Kasza) , passed away September 22, 2022 at home in Grand Rapids, MI after a second battle with cancer. Beloved wife of Dave for 49 years, mom of Nate (Abby), and Granny of Zavier. Special mom of doggie Huey (aka Bubba). Dearest sister of Cindy (Bob) Long of Wisconsin and Donna Kasza (Neil Hansen) of Arizona. Further survived by in-laws Judy & Dave Gray and Joanne & Jim Sanderson of Wisconsin, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.

Linda has joined her mom and dad, John & Evie Kasza, brother-in-law Joe Corona, nephew AJ Corona, and in-laws Jack & Doris Boyer.

The oldest of the 3 Kasza girls, Linda grew up in West Allis, WI. She was a proud graduate of West Milwaukee High School and graduated with a double major in French and English from WSU Whitewater (now UW Whitewater). Her first job after graduation was teaching high school French in Mondovi, WI where she met the love of her life, Dave. After marrying in 1973, Dave's job took them to River Falls, WI. There Linda enjoyed being the cashier for the University of Wisconsin - River Falls and after their son was born, she went into the real estate field.

Son Nate was 3 when Dave's job took them to Grand Rapids, MI where they've been for the last 42 years. Linda decided to switch gears again, so she went back to school at Davenport College in Grand Rapids where she received a finance degree, taught in the computer lab and became a CPA.

In 1995 Linda joined the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park staff as an accountant on the 3rd day the gardens were open. She LOVED the gardens and everyone who worked so hard to make it what it is today. Linda always felt it was a privilege to work there.

Linda enjoyed so many things. Besides the aforementioned love of Meijer Gardens, she cooked family favorites and tried new recipes constantly. She always said it's not that she liked to cook, she just liked to eat! She never worried about making a mess, because if she cooked, Dave cleaned up. Yup, she was lucky.

She was an avid reader and always made sure to alternate between non-fiction and fiction; because while she was always learning new things, everyone should take time out to enjoy a good story every now and then.

She also sewed and sewed beautifully, something all 3 Kasza girls loved. After Donna and Neil moved to the Seattle area, Linda and Donna would spend 3 days every March at one of the largest sewing shows in the country, learning and shopping 'til they dropped. As recently as last month, Linda was still adding to her fabric collection.

Because of Linda's green thumb, Linda and Dave never had to buy tomatoes, green peppers or cucumbers during the summer. She had bags and bags of strawberry rhubarb in the freezer ready to be made into rhubarb bread, pies, and her mom's favorite recipes. Apples were made into applesauce, peaches were frozen, ready to defrost to enjoy a bit of summer during the long winter days.

Linda had no regrets in life. She, Dave and Nate took a much-anticipated trip to France where she was often mistaken for a native because of her flawless French. On a cruise to Martinique, she was once again able to use her French skills. While she did enjoy a vacation to a beautiful location with the locals speaking her chosen second language, her adventurous streak also led her, Dave and Nate to an Outward Bound adventure off the coast of Maine. Can you picture Linda sleeping on a bench in a little boat under the stars, jumping into the Atlantic every crisp morning and swimming a lap around the boat? She did! And who would have thought that Linda would hop on the back of Dave's Gold Wing and ride all over Michigan!

More than ten years ago Linda started volunteering at Buchanan Elementary in Grand Rapids where daughter-in-law Abby is a second-grade teacher. Besides joining them for all their field trips, Linda met one-on-one with students to help them with math, reading and spelling. She even started learning Spanish so she could better communicate with those students whose first language was Spanish. She was still learning Spanish even as she was entering hospice.

Her genuine care and interest in others was clear to all, be it the students she worked with at Buchanan who lovingly called her Mrs. B, to Nate's high school friends who felt like she was a second mom to them and still refer to her as Ma B.

After her grandson Zavier was born, whom she referred to as the "cutest little boy in the world", no one had to ask Linda twice to babysit. She was always taking him to places like Blandford Nature Center, Fredrick Meijer Gardens, and the Fulton Street Farmers Market; anywhere they could make memories. She taught him the importance of learning how to cook and saving money for the future. She made every holiday special for him, but especially Easter, because she took it as her job to be the Easter Bunny every year.

The family would like to thank all of the friends Linda has had throughout the years. She may not have stayed in contact with everyone, but she always remembered and cherished the people and friendships that made her who she was. Her kindness and care crossed generations.

The family would also like to thank the Dr. Reddy of Cancer Care Alliance and especially Kaeley and Jamara of Spectrum Health Hospice. We don't know what we would have done without you.

Per Linda's wishes, no services will be held.
