Lester Sprague, 96 went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2018. He was predeceased by his parents, the Rev. Ray and Edith Sprague, one brother, John and one sister, Eva Mae Sprague. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Vernice, one daughter, Angela (Kenneth) Kalawart, 2 grandchildren, Erin (Tyler) Dewey and Lisa Kalawart, and one great granddaughter. A brother also survives him, Leroy (Eleanor) of Cleveland, Ohio and several nieces and nephews. Lester was born and raised in the Cadillac area and was a graduate of Leroy High School as well as the Coyne Electrical School of Chicago. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S Coast Guard for 4 years, mostly on the U.S.S Hoquiam in the Aleutian Islands in the North Pacific. He was employed in the construction industry both as a retail and wholesale salesman and as a foreman of a home improvement division of Lock City Home Center (Formerly Lock City Manufacturing Co.) in Sault Ste. Marie. After moving to Grand Rapids in 1985 he was employed at Walnut Hills Apt. Complex, West Michigan Industrial Sales, Navigant Int'l, and Advance Publishing. While living in the Sault he was chairman of the building committee for a new Free Methodist Church, giving many hours of volunteer work. He also served on the board of trustees and several years treasurer. Lester served as a member and usher at Kentwood Community Church for several years. In recent years he was a regular attendant of Calvary Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday May 29. 2018 for 6 P.M. - 8 P.M. at Ofield Funeral Home.(4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood) A Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11 A.M at Ofield Funeral Home (4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, MI).
