Leon Gerald (Jerry) Daniels was born March 11,1941 in Wyandotte Michigan to Marlin and Alberta (Evans) Daniels, He was the second of three sons. He died after a lengthy illness on December 5, 2017 at the age of 76, the 58th anniversary of his marriage to Arthuretta Marie Bixler, who preceded him in death on December 9, 2001. He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Willard and Dennis. Jerry and Arthuretta were blessed with three sons, Jerry (Val) of Augusta, Scott (Starr) of Wellston, and Derick (Andrea) of Kalamazoo, all of whom survive. In addition he is survived by 10 grandchildren Jill Needham, Shirley Karalash, Todd Norman, Katannya Stramaglia, Kiya Byrd, Mike Lott, Raymond "Chaz" McPherson, Karen Christine "KC" Daniels, Rachael Quick, and Lydia Daniels,19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Jerry held a variety of jobs, but he most fondly remembered working in maternity at Borgess Hospital when he was a young man, talking frequently about helping deliver babies. He also enjoyed telling about the times he worked at the paper mills that Kalamazoo was so famous for. Jerry is fondly remembered for how devoted he was to his family, sometimes walking miles to do errands for Arthuretta. He loved to bake and his skills were appreciated by his family who claimed his bread was a perfected art form. He had an adventurous palate and frequently prepared and tried new foods. His love of nature might find him watching a special on television, or out of doors enjoying gardening and farming. The farm animals had a special place in his heart, including the cats and dogs. When he had the time he would often be found sharing an evening of bingo with his wife. Jerry was also accomplished in crocheting, making many articles and gifts for friends and family members throughout his lifetime. According to his wishes, Jerry has been cremated. A memorial service to celebrate Jerry's life will be held at 2:00 pm on January 20, 2018 at Westwood United Methodist Church, 538 Nichols Road, in Kalamazoo, with Reverend Doctor Wayne A. Price officiating. .
