IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leland
Semm
August 31, 1938 – October 5, 2023
Leland L. Semm of Plainwell, Michigan (formerly of Waukegan, Illinois), age 85, passed away on October
5, 2023. He was born to Gerald and Irene Semm on August 31, 1938 in Sarona, Wisconsin.
Leland was married to his high school sweetheart, Sally Semm (Miller) in 1956. They had three boys,
Ricky of Colorado, Brian (Teri) of Michigan and Michael (Robin) of Michigan. Ricky had three children,
Amanda (Aaron) Lawson, Stacey (Aaron) Kruse and Bryan (Amber) Semm, all of Colorado. Brian had two
children, Shelly Semm and Jacqueline Semm, both of Wisconsin. Michael had two children, Anthony
Semm and Nicholas Semm, both of Michigan.
Leland worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) in various roles for 36 years. He spent the majority of his
career with UPS as a CDL truck driver and member of Teamsters 705. When he retired at the age of 55,
he and Sally traveled between their homes in Waukegan Illinois and Hayward Wisconsin where they
enjoyed viewing black bears on their property.
Leland enjoyed taking short day trips and loved stopping at estate and garage sales along his way. He
would pick up lawn mowers, snow blowers and various garden tools that weren't working properly. He
would then spend hours tinkering with them and refurbishing to resell. Leland was well known in his
neighborhood for having the most well kept lawn. You could regularly see him out in his yard where he
tended to the yard and Sally tended to the flowers. Leland and Sally also spent many years enjoying
snowmobiling in Upper Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Leland is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-seven years Sally A. Semm (Miller); loving children Ricky,
Brian (Teri) and Michael (Robin); sister Anna Mae and brother Randy (Dianne); seven grandchildren;
nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Irene of Wisconsin and
one brother, Timothy (Sue) of Illinois.
The family would like to thank CorsoCare Hospice and Briarwood Assisted Living for their care and
compassion during Leland's fight with Alzheimer's.
Leland and Sally have chosen to delay services to celebrate their lives until they can be together in
eternity. They have chosen a companion urn and their lives will be celebrated together once Sally joins
Leland in Heaven.
Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a memorial contribution to The
Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
