Obituary

Lavon Marie Grunewald passed away peacefully on December 31, 2023, at the age of 91, to be with her
Holy Father. Lavon's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, kindness, and faith. She was
born July 29 1932, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Claude and Marie Deman. Lavon grew up surrounded by
the warmth of her family, including her sisters Shirley (Bill) Gillesse and Carolee (Jack) Lovell. Her early
life was filled with the joys of learning and friendship, culminating in her graduation from Ottawa Hills
High School. She carried the values instilled in her youth throughout her life, touching the hearts of
everyone she met.

Her professional life was marked by dedication and excellence as she served as an office manager for
many years. Lavon was dedicated to Jesus Christ, and she and Fred were longtime members of Park
Congregational Church where they were married, baptized their children, volunteered, and met and
followed their beloved spiritual leader and friends, Reverend Dr. Phil Johnson and wife Melody.
Lavon's heart found its truest joy in her family life. She was a beloved wife for 69 years to her late
husband, Fred, and together they nurtured a family that would become her greatest legacy. She was a
devoted mother to her children, Steve (Susan) Grunewald, Lisa (Rande) Colburn, and Brian (Christine)
Grunewald. Her love blossomed further with the arrival of her cherished grandchildren, Eric (Ana), Ryan,
Taryn (Tony), Lauren (Tony), Reid, and Ana Grunewald, and Christopher (Kacee) Colburn; and great-
grandchildren Jacob and Reece Grunewald, and Charlotte Colburn.

Family would like to sincerely thank Lavon's many friends and her care team who were so kind and
supportive during her difficult times.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday January 11 at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Avenue
