IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry James
Holthof
March 20, 1951 – October 9, 2021
Larry James Holthof of Kentwood, Michigan, age 70, passed away on Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was born to Lawrence and June (Vandenbelt) Holthof on March 20, 1951.
He was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Kent Occupational High School in 1970. He has resided in the Grand Rapids area all his life. He was married to Karen Holthof (Sontag) for 43 fabulous years. Larry was a car enthusiast who loved vintage cars, vintage watches and the 50's. His favorite movie was GREASE with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. He loved old westerns on cable, GUN SMOKE being his favorite vintage TV show. He loved helping a good friend with his antique car restorations and just shooting the breeze. He enjoyed traveling around Michigan and to Greece with his wife. He, also, enjoyed cooking and eating.
He loved Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and being involved in the Church by volunteering his time with Yassou Festival every year since its inception. He struggled with Dyslexia and ADHD but he had a heart of gold. He may have had average jobs in factories but it gave him purpose. His wife was the most important thing in his life. He always supported his wife and never stood in her way. He was her support and always there when she needed him He was the most unselfish man who would help anybody in need. He was kind and gentle and had a soft heart for animal. He always wished he could do more but he did plenty by being who he was. His heart was pure and filled with love. He and Karen were soul mates in the strongest sense of the word. From the moment they met it felt "right" for them, and they knew they would be together "until death do us part". He was so sure of how he felt that after their first meeting he went home and told his dad "That's the girl I'm going to marry."
Larry is a very special person who still believed in traditions like marriage for life and the close ties of family. Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Karen M.
