LaNita Ramona Haith, age 76, passed away on July 12, 2024, after a long illness and then an acute complication.
She was born on September 9,1947 at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC to Raymond Thomas Haith and LaDonne Bernyce Fields Haith. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1956.
LaNita was a well known and loved Detroit West-Sider. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1964 with accolades for her outgoing personality and exceptional intelligence. She was a cheerleader, president, leader, and a member of multiple organizations.
She graduated from Michigan State University in 1968 with a BA in Journalism, and later obtained a MA in Communications Research. LaNita was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and the president of the Southfield Chapter for two terms. She was very involved with Detroit and received "The Spirit of Detroit Award" among many others.
She worked at New Detroit and while there pursued her real passion,The Law. She attended Detroit College of Law and funded her own way to the legal Bar, was President of The Law Review, and published a response to the Vincent Chen case. She was an appointed Judge Magistrate for the State of Michigan for 15 years and later had a private legal practice for many years. Throughout her life, she stood for fairness and equality and believed that hard work and community involvement were the keys to success.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and LaDonne, her grandparents, Daniel and Georgia Fields, and her husband,Herbert Williams. She is survived by her sisters, Lynda Haith R.A., L'Tanya Haith M.D., her niece, Khelani Clay J.D., and her great nephew, Klay Ballinger.
