IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kevin James
Holt
June 9, 1961 – November 28, 2024
Kevin James Holt made his life count every day! He was an overcomer who prevailed in the face of many difficulties. After suffering a massive stroke in 2000, Kevin fought his way back to a full life. Although the world saw him as disabled, he was whole and lacked nothing. When he was diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer just a few months ago, he turned to his faith for solace. Here is Kevin's story.
On June 9, 1961, Kevin was born to James and Patricia (Stoner) Holt of Kalamazoo, Michigan. He graduated from Comstock High School in Kalamazoo, and after spending a short time in the military, attended Olivet College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. His area of concentration was Mathematics and Science, which explained his skills as a competitive chess player. After graduation, Kevin worked as a high school teacher and later junior college instructor.
One of Kevin's proudest moments was when he became a published author. In his book, God's Lighthouse - Food For Thought, Kevin shared his spiritual wisdom and insight with others. More importantly, he desired to inspire and encourage others to build and grow in their walk with Jesus. Another high point in his life was the missionary trip he took to India just several months before his passing.
He was full of love and brought joy to many during his 63-year journey on earth. Some of his most treasured relationships included his longtime friendship (which was more like a brotherhood) with Dave Moffit and Dave's son, Lucas. Lucas and Kevin were buddies who enjoyed singing karaoke together and caring for their two cats.
Kevin couldn't say enough wonderful things about his Pastor Ben Weatherston and his wife Jen, along with Tyson, Oommen, and Tomm, close brothers in the Lord, and all of his church family at Grand Rapids Church of Christ. Throughout his sickness, they showed the love of Christ by visiting him, praying for him, and helping with his needs.
He also had a close bond with family members, especially his niece Jennifer (Derrick) Drake and nephew Owen Drake. Kevin leaves many others to cherish his memory including his mom, Patricia (Stoner) Holt, a nephew, Eric Todd, and a niece, Amy Van Dyke. He was preceded in death by his father James Holt, two sisters, Kimberly and Lori, and a brother, Kip Edward.
On November 28, 2024, Kevin James Holt said farewell to this world and entered into God's everlasting kingdom. There he has found peace and eternal rest.
