Abbasse, Kevin James; age 62 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, January 26th, 2017. Kevin was very passionate in the fire service and serving his community. His faith in Christ was reflected in the love he shared with his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his father Ahmed (Offie) Abbasse, grandmother Dorothy Ash, and brothers Randy and Christopher Abbasse. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Abbasse; his daughter Jaime Felber (Rich); his son Joshua Abbasse (Tiffany Foy); mother Helen Abbasse; brother Darin Abbasse (Dana) and nieces Kirstyn and Claire; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and colleagues. Kevin was born July 27, 1954 in Grand Rapids, MI. He worked the majority of his life in the fire service at Cascade and Kentwood Fire Departments. He spent time as a fulltime firefighter, inspector and retired as a fire marshal. He would have retired from Eastern Michigan University as the Manager of Structural Life Safety Systems and focused his time in running his own business, Fire Safety 2000. Kevin was a key member of the Michigan Fire Inspectors Society as the first 2 term past-president and active in the organization's planning committee and code development committee. He was respected as one of the most knowledgeable fire service instructors in the State of Michigan. Kevin will be missed by all who knew this gentle giant. Visitation for Kevin will start Friday, February 3rd at 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed with service at 5 p.m. A dinner will follow at 6 p.m. 'til 8 p.m. Services will be held at the Knapp Campus of Ada Bible Church (3869 Knapp St. NE Grand Rapids, MI 49525) with Brady Nemmers officiating. Contributions in memory of Kevin may be made to the MFIS Scholarship Fund, c/o Ofield Funeral Home.
