IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kathleen "Kay" Carner
Troy
November 11, 1923 – May 3, 2024
Kathleen "Kay" Carner Troy was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to many. She passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, at the age of 100, at Samaritas Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Kay graduated from Grand Rapids South High School and completed her Bachelor's degree at Western Michigan University. She taught at Grand Rapids and Kentwood Public Schools for over 30 years and was a favorite teacher of many. It wasn't uncommon for her to be recognized by her former students years later, who would share fond memories of their time in her classroom.
From a young age, Kay was passionate about caring for animals. She provided a loving home to 27 dogs and many cats throughout her life. For over 50 years, she frequently donated to the Humane Society of West Michigan and the ASPCA. While living at Samaritas, she enjoyed frequent visits with the dogs and cats of her loved ones.
Kay had a group of ten friends from high school who met once a month for lunch, and she remained close with many of her childhood friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, and completing crossword puzzles. Kay was generous with family and cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She had a lot of love to share, and her presence will be greatly missed.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents: Lyndon A. and Zella L. Carner; husbands: Wayne R. Glase and Howard W. Troy; and sons: Richard W. Glase and Robert L. Glase. She is survived by her stepchildren: Barry (Lynn) Troy, Brenda Leep, and Monica Troy; step-grandchildren: Mark (Christy) Troy, Cindy (Allen) Denny; Jeremy (Shannon) Leep, Andrea (Matthew) Rader, Michael Leep, and Molly Griffin; seven step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
