Obituary

Kathleen “Kay” Colacchio, a person of warmth and kindness, passed away after a long struggle with dementia on May 12, 2026 in Grandville, MI.

Kay was born on August 7, 1942, in New York City. Kay spent her younger years on the bustling streets of Manhattan. She played in Central Park as a child and watched over her younger brothers and sisters.

She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, aunt, and a cherished sister. Her family included her late ex-husband Richard Colacchio, whom she cared for in his final months before his passing in New Jersey, her stepdaughter Jackie Colacchio, her late son Richie Colacchio, and her son Mark Colacchio. It also included her beloved grandchildren Brooklyn, Richie, Chelsea, her late granddaughter Miranda, Amber, Mark Jr., and Marissa, and her many great-grandchildren. Kay had many nieces and nephews. Kay also held her sister Maureen and husband Jerry Ritsema, and her brother Dennis and wife Gwen, close to her heart.

Her passion for children shone brightly during her years working in the cafeteria of an elementary school. There, she was affectionately known as “Miss Kay” by the children she so adored. Her time as a crossing guard further reflected her commitment to the safety and well-being of the young ones. Kay’s love for babies and children was evident to all who knew her.

Outside of her work, Kay found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She was an avid player of Bingo and cards; she enjoyed the friendly competition they brought. She enjoyed traveling with her sister and friends to fun places.

Kay was loving, friendly, and thoughtful, Kay never missed an opportunity to lend a listening ear or extend a helping hand. Her presence was a comfort to those around her, and her ability to connect with others was truly remarkable. Kay’s legacy of kindness and compassion is a testament to the life she led and the hearts she touched.

As we bid farewell to Kathleen “Kay” Colacchio, we celebrate the love she shared in this world. Kay’s journey through life was one of unwavering love and boundless generosity, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

We take comfort in knowing that Kay is now at peace, reunited with her beloved son Richie, granddaughter Miranda, and all of her family and friends who have preceded her in death. As we mourn her passing, we also honor her life. Kay’s story does not end here, for she lives on in the hearts of those she loved so dearly.

Kay has been cremated at Ofield Funeral Home, and her ashes will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming, MI.

A Celebration of Life will be communicated at a later date.
