April 2, 2015 Service: April 13, 2015 Karen E. (Nielsen) Braendle, age 80, of Grand Rapids, died Thursday, April 2, 2015. She is survived by her daughters Julie (Rob) Zanutta, Jane (Phil) Saurman, and Jill Braendle; grandchildren Leah, Milo, Gabriella, Giuliana, Gianluca and Annarosa; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Larry, and brother Ronald Nielsen. Karen was a long-time local business owner (Kentwood Colors), and community supporter; Michigan Trails Girl Scout Council, Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, Women's Resource Center, and other local literacy programs, to name a few. She was also known for her warm, welcoming smile, and optimistic outlook. Memorial services will be held 11 am Monday, April 13, 2015 at Sentinel Pointe Retirement Community in the Sentry Room, 2900 Thornhills SE, with Reverend Douglas VanDoren officiating.
