June Marie Stearns, formerly of St. Charles, joined her husband on his birthday in Heaven on Jan. 2, 2021 She was born in Delhi, MN on June 10, 1929 to the late Carl and Florence (McKay) Hultquist. She moved to Michigan and received her Bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University. She married her husband, Robert "Jake" Stearns on October 12, 1957. They moved from Mt. Clemens, MI to St. Charles after purchasing the Silver Bar which Jake renamed "Jake's Office". In 2016, June moved to Grand Rapids, MI to be closer to her daughter, Judy and her family.

Together June and Jake built their life in St. Charles. They loved snowmobiling with the Saints Snowmobile Club during the 1960s and 1970s, spending time at their cottage in Pentwater. June was a dedicated educator who retired from Swan Valley High School in 1984. She taught English as well as serving as the yearbook advisor and chief negotiator for the Swan Valley Education Association. After retirement, June and Jake built a cottage on the golf course at Sugar Springs which was the site of many happy memories with family and friends. They were avid Dixieland jazz fans and enjoyed traveling to jazz festivals across the country. June was an avid bowler and golfer who treasured her friendships built over many years on the lanes and links. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren and was blessed to share many of their accomplishments with them. June was a member of the St. Charles United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her strength, her sense of humor, and tenacity.

Surviving are her daughter, Judy (Brian) Williams of East Grand Rapids, two grandchildren, Jake (Taryn) Williams, Jillian (Luke Timmer) Williams, 2 great grandchildren, Finnegan and Pennelope Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake in 2011.

June has been cremated per her wishes and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider the St. Charles District Library in lieu of flowers.
