With family at her side Julia Mary Emery-Riemersma (Buzas), age 94 of Grandville, was peacefully called home on Thursday May 9, 2019. She was a beloved daughter, wife, mother, "Mema," grandmother and great-grandmother. Born July 27, 1924 to Charles and Esther (Budjaco) Buzas, she grew up on the family farm in Coopersville and later settled in Grand Rapids with her first husband, James Emery, where she raised her three children, Ron, Jeff and Kim. After his passing she later married Robert Riemersma and moved to Grandville where she remained. She kept active with her grandchildren, love of cooking, baking Hungarian pastries and her talented needlework. She is lovingly remembered by her three children; Ronald (Pamela) Emery of Davison, Jeffery Emery of Grandville, and Kimberly (Mark) VanPutten of Jenison. Her ten grandchildren; Mark Emery, Anissa (Lyn) Emery, Robert (Jennifer) Czachorski, Jill (Paul) Clunan, Elizabeth (Ben) Gutierrez, Kathryn (William) Stratton, Kathleen (Josh) Kasnowicz, Amanda VanPutten, Joshua VanPutten and Shawn VanPutten. Her fourteen great-grandchildren; Orehanna, Audrey, Grace, Jessica, Dylan, London, Brynn, Nolan, Axel, Titus, Zack, Chloe, Jett and Addison. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband of 18 years James Emery, and her second husband of 35 years Robert Riemersma. Her siblings Margaret Ruch, Frank Buzas, Steven Kottyan, Charles Buzas, Sophie Kelly, Louis Buzas, Elizabeth Schwailler, Helen Eisen, Joseph Buzas, Rose Burman and her daughter-in-law Sally Emery. A celebration of her life is scheduled for Friday May 31, 2019 at Trillium Woods Chapel located at 8214 Pfeiffer Farms Drive in Byron Center starting at 1:00 PM. Family will be available one hour before the service to greet friends and family. A private family interment to follow at Graceland Memorial Park in Cascade where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
