Obituary

Judith Ellen (DeWard) Pennepacker "Randy" went peacefully to be with her Lord & Savior on June 25, 2025 in Plainwell, MI, surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 81.  She was born December 27, 1943 to John & Evelyn DeWard in Kalamazoo, MI. She leaves a legacy of love that changes lives and generations through the love of Jesus Christ.

Throughout her life Judy loved all animals, especially horses and cats. As a child, she was a Girl Scout and followed in her mother's footsteps as a troop leader for her own daughter. She enjoyed reminiscing about trips with her parents, including one trip to Yellowstone National Park where she experienced the earthquake of 1959. It was in the Shipshewana Horse Sale Barn that she met Larry Pennepacker. Larry and Judy married when Judy was 18 years old and they were married for 49 years. That marriage produced 3 lovely children, Larry Jr, Steven and Jodi.

Judy is survived by her son Steve (Tammy) Pennepacker (Plainwell, MI), daughter Jodi (Jesse) Patrick (Plainwell, MI), grandkids: Michael Huff, Rhonda (Wade) Griffin, Christina Pennepacker, Casey (Eric) Meek, Larry Pennepacker III, Tara (Heath) Helmer, Blain (Alexandra) Patrick, Julie (Cody) Wells, Jamie (Jon Van Houten) Patrick, Stevie (Ryan) Rose and Jesse(Stephanie) Patrick II, as well as 25 great grandkids, who loved their "Grandma Peanut". She is also survived by her siblings, Jerry Chester, Larry Chester, Gary Chester, George Kish, Colleen Alaniz,. She is preceded in death by her parents, John & Evelyn DeWard, son, Larry Pennepacker Jr, and brother, Paul Kish.

Judy spent her adult life loving on children continuously. She worked in and/or led children's ministries at Westwood Church of God, Thornapple Valley Church and many other churches. During the years at Westwood on Sundays she would load up dozens (yes, literally) of kids in her conversion van & then afterward she would take them to Hot n Now & get everyone a hamburger. She also sponsored countless children through Compassion International.

She went on several missionary trips, including 2 trips to Russia, Japan, Ecuador, Peru, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Judy's Celebration of Life will be held at the Orangeville Township Hall on Wednesday, August 6th at 2 pm. Luncheon will be provided. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Judy's life.
