Obituary

Judith "Judy" Grim Lee, 78, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2024. The oldest of eight siblings, she was born on July 25, 1946, in York, Pennsylvania, to the late Richard and Blanche Grim.

Judy attended several colleges across the country and ultimately received her undergraduate degree in psychology from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. After moving to Grand Rapids in 1978 with her then-husband Gary Lee and their two sons, she worked for years in the helping profession, including as a counselor for unwed mothers and troubled teens.

Judy was a devoted mother to her sons, Joshua Lee (Eva Aguirre) and Jonathan Lee (Becky), and grandmother to Sylvie and Silas Keane. She is also survived by her siblings, Nancy Linton (John), Kevin Grim (Susan), Sandy Challenger, Becky Grim Peters Brown (Carl Brown), Steve Grim (Tami), and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Judy was a longtime friend and companion to Greg Connell, who shared homes with Judy in Michigan, Oregon, and California.

A kind and compassionate soul, Judy will be remembered for her warm heart, love of family, and dedication to those she cared about. A devoted reader and journal keeper, Judy shared her wisdom and love in cards and letters with her family and friends.

Along with her passion for helping others, Judy was also known for her fruitful green thumb. Just as she cherished cultivating memorable relationships, her gifts as a nurturer were reflected in the beautiful plants and gardens always surrounding her; one of her most memorable gardens included her favorite of all flowers, peonies. Judy's unique caring and gentle spirit lives on in the hearts and memories of those who knew her and were loved by her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Faith Hospice , whose staff cared for Judy compassionately in her final weeks of life.
