Obituary

John Samuel Warner, age 73, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away on October 9, 2025, at Thornapple Manor Nursing Home, surrounded by many who loved him.

John was born on December 26, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Beldon and Loretta Warner, both deceased.

John lived a full and meaningful life, dedicating himself to his family and to helping others. He developed a passion for cars early on—especially classic cars—and could build one from nothing but spare parts. He was famous for dragging home the most awful-looking vehicles (sometimes needing a tow) and somehow turning them into something that looked and ran like new. Even from the nursing home, John was known to offer advice to anyone who needed help fixing a car—or a furnace!

He was a "Jack of all trades and master of none," as he liked to say, but whatever he did, he gave it his all. Over the years, John worked in the automotive industry, installed glass and fireplaces, tried his hand in sales, and even ran one of the best R/C race tracks in Grand Rapids. No matter the job, he poured his heart into it.

John raised three children and countless others who came through his home over the years. As a coach, he was known for being both fair and kind, always making sure every kid got a chance to play—whether it was baseball or football.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Beldon and Loretta Warner; his brother, B. Dale Warner; his sister, Jean Bogar; and his former wife, Linda Snell.

John is survived by his former wife, Eileen Warner; his daughter, Stacy Lynn Warner (Richard); his sons, AJ Warner (Sara) and Garrett Warner (Megan); and his ten grandchildren—Corey, Cody, Caleb, Shakira, Lennon, Sage, Kiyah, Mirabella, Ana, and Ava.

John was always willing to help others and could never pass a broken-down car without stopping to lend a hand. He had a soft spot for animals and somehow overlooked the fact that he and Eileen once ended up with 20 Chihuahuas and two Great Danes. Of all the pets he loved, his favorite was Piglet, a Chihuahua from their very first litter who lived to be 19 years old.

He loved racing—both big and small—building, painting, and racing cars himself. He was an avid pool player, softball enthusiast, and excellent bowler who bowled right up until he couldn't lift the ball anymore. John loved good food (especially fish sandwiches!) and had a great sense of humor. He could tell a joke like no one else and seemed to know a little bit about everything. His family often joked that he was a "wealth of worthless information," but his Jeopardy skills proved otherwise!

John was a loving husband, father, and friend. His kindness, humor, and heart for helping others will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
