John Francis "Riggy" Rygwelski, 62, of Battle Creek, died at home on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. The son of the late Elias and Isabel (Kapala) Rygwelski, he was born in Rogers City, Michigan, on October 10, 1962, and grew up there. He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church, worked at the Systex plant for 18 years, and enjoyed hunting and caring for his chickens. On December 24, 1995, in Leonard, Michigan, John married the late Angela Rygwelski (née Coon).

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Julie Kowlomyski of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his sisters, Barbara (the late Homer) Clewley and Janet (the late Edwin) Day of Carleton; and his brother, Michael (Deanne). He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Darlene Rygwelski (the late Eugene); parents-in-law, Kenneth and Rosemary Coon; brothers-in-law, Michael (Monique) Coon and Johnny (Heather) Coon; a longtime family friend and mother figure, Margaret Simon; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene.

Rite of Committal will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, Michigan, on Friday, October 31st, 2025 at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lizette's Journey: Unseen Battles (BA, Asplenia, Transplant) via Venmo link , or to a charity of the donor's choice.
