John J Kutilek, age 89, of Byron Center, passed away on June 29th, 2021. John was born on July 8th, 1931 in Utica, SD on the family farm. He was the 9th of 11 children. He went on to serve his country in the Navy during the Korean war and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. John attended the University of South Dakota where he earned two master degrees during his studies. After completing his education in South Dakota, he worked for most of his life in the education field.

John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn; children, Bill (Joan), Bob (Katie), Joan (Bob) Mervenne, John H. (Meredith); sister, Polly Kniffen; grandchildren, Jesse Mervenne, Kinsey Kutilek, Jake Kutilek; step-grandchildren, Mike (Heather) Mervenne, Kelly (Brian) Darling, Mollie (Dave) Lockard; and many great-grandchildren.

At John's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral or memorial service, John's family will greet relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on July 31st from 2pm to 5pm at Ofield Funeral Home (4500 Kalamazoo Ave, Kentwood).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Association Service Details. Visitation
