IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Albert
Jenkerson
August 3, 1939 – December 15, 2023
August 3, 1939 to December 15, 2023, age 84
Zeeland MI—born in Herculaneum MO to Verneda & Delbert Jenkerson
John was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Sally Caudill, and his sister Letty Stotler. He was step-father to the Caudill children (six) and when their mother died in 1971, he became their legal guardian until they reached the age of 18. He married Nancy Sutton in 1973 and gained another step-daughter. He had nineteen grandchildren through his first marriage—and six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren through Nancy's son & daughter.
John was a career navy man, spending his last several years as a Chief Quartermaster. He served in war & peace times. His last ship was the USS Cocopa ATF-101, a fleet tug boat. His kids used to tease him, calling him "Coo-Coo-Pa". After he retired from the Navy, he attended Christian Heritage College in CA and did studies towards a Master of Divinity degree. He became an interim Pastor in southern CA and a chaplain for the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department. He & Nancy felt God's calling into missions and went to Austria through SGA (Slavic Gospel Association) and remained there through IT (International Teams) for a total of 13 years. Returning to the states (USA), they worked for a while with resettling immigrants. John then retired and took a job as a greeter at Meijer's. He enjoyed praying for others, loved talking with other military service men & women and gave stickers out to the children. He played the role of Santa Claus several times at Meijer's, participated regularly in the annual Memorial Day Parade in Holland MI, preached many times at the Holland Mission, and loved to sing.
Later in his adult life, John came to love the Lord with all his heart, mind & strength and lived the Great Commission as set forth in God's Holy Scriptures. He developed a special interest in Biblical prophecy and current events and how they fit in with the end times. He looked forward to when they'd be in heaven with our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ—he did not fear death— during his last year, he was more ready & willing (with great excitement) to go—whether it be thru the rapture of the church or death.
John & Nancy were married for 50 years and died within 18 hours of each other.
With that in mind, our family memorial was focused on Celebrating his & Nancy's lives and where they are now—in the PRESENCE of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords—JESUS!
The family would like to thank Theresa Lozano, Shiree Boerema and Hospice of Holland (MI) for their care and compassion during John's Alzheimer's illness.
