Obituary

John L. Hudzik, aged 79, passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home on March 26, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Born and raised in New Jersey, John graduated from Nutley High School and later attended Rutgers University, earning a degree in accounting. A man of honor and dedication, he proudly served his country as a linguist and analyst in the United States Air Force for six years, including during the Vietnam War. John considered it a great privilege to serve his nation and often took time to share stories with fellow veterans, making each one feel valued and respected. John's life was one of many passions. He played football at Penn State, becoming a lifelong Nittany Lions fan. Following his military service, John built a successful career in car and boat sales before finding joy in driving a school bus for the last 11 years. He cherished his "grandchildren" on the bus, embracing each year as an opportunity to welcome new little ones into his life.
John met the love of his life, Bunny, while dancing—a passion they shared throughout their almost 35 years of marriage, beginning on September 14, 1990. They often said they met dancing and danced all through their almost 35 years. Together, they traveled, cruised, and delighted in weekly trivia nights with friends. John also treasured family gatherings, especially holiday celebrations. He often recounted stories about working on house projects, or attending car shows with his grandsons. Special trips to Disney and cruises with his great-grandchildren were fondly remembered, as was the deep bond he shared with Tyler Joe, whom he helped raise from infancy.
A genuine people person, John made friends wherever life took him. In Battle Creek, he was blessed with many connections yet always held a special place for his friends, Bob and Terri MacKaluso, and Paul and Jenny Potter.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Bunny Hudzik; his sister, Mary Stoddard; his nephew Paul and two nieces; his stepchildren, David (Doria) Osborn, Mark Osborn, and Tiffany (Richard) Winner; as well as his 15 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He is predeceased by his stepson, James Osborn and granddaughter, Cali Jo. John's family invites all who loved him to honor his life at a service on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Fort Custer National Cemetery, 15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta, MI 49012. Celebration of Life will be held afterward at the Polish National Alliance (P&A Club), 15 Clair St, Battle Creek, MI 49014.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America at https://hdsa.org.
John's legacy of kindness, love, and devotion to family, friends, and country will live on in the memories of all who knew him.
