Obituary

John Martin Girschle, age 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior and reunited with his wife (of 53 years) Irena, January 3, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irena (Bloem) Girschle and grandson Raymond Linscott. He will be lovingly missed by children Steve (Kathy) Girschle, Renee (Don) Linscott, Amy (Mike) Davis. He is also survived by grandchildren Brittnea (Peter) Topping; Zack, Bryce, Aubrey Girschle; Emily, Lillian, Paul Linscott; and Lucas and Blake Davis; great-granddaughter, Lilah Topping.

John served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a military police officer. He was wounded in service which sent him home to be with his soon to be wife. His love for fishing inspired him to open up a bait shop, "Johnny's Sport Shop", on the west side of Grand Rapids. He ran that for over 20 years. He then made the change to ownership of Prose 5&10 in Grandville with his wife Irena and began a full family operation. As he began to slow down, he sold flagpoles at home shows with the help of the love of his life, Irena.

John will always be remembered as someone who would do anything for anybody. He could cry at the drop of a hat, which was endearing. He was an avid fisherman, loyal friend, and great story teller.

John's celebration of life (open house) will be held Saturday, January 15th from 10am to noon at 5751 DelMar View Dr, Wyoming in the Delmar Neighborhood Clubhouse. We would love to see old and new faces and share stories of our Dad. Service Details.
