IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Michael
Furlan
July 1, 1938 – June 23, 2012
June 23, 2012 Service: July 14, 2012 John Michael Furlan July 1, 1938 to June 23, 2012 This good man left the fog of Alzheimer's at 73 years of age, to be a part of the Universe. He was devoted to Susan, his wife of 49 years; his two sons, Mark (Rutland, VT) and children, Abraham and Oskar, and Erik and daughter-in-law Ritu (Louisville, KY) and children, Alicia and Max. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Paul Eastman (Columbus, OH), niece Annie Eastman-Coombs (Denver, CO), and Sam Eastman (Pittsburgh, PA). John met Susan at MacMurray College and graduated with a degree in Industrial Technology. He later earned an MBA/Finance from Rochester Institute of Technology. He was proud to have served in the Marine Corps; loved to laugh and make other people laugh; and was passionate about golf, which he played at every opportunity. John's family has been supported by dear friends and are grateful to all of them, but particularly Pat and Rick Hall who have walked the walk with Susan and John throughout the journey. They are also indebted to the amazing staff at The Woods of Maple Creek for their loving care and kindnesses over the last year and a half. Susan will remember them for sharing their tears, hugs, and affection with John and our family. John began participation in the Alzheimer's Research Project at The University of Michigan after his diagnosis 8 years ago and his brain will be studied there. His body has been donated to The U of M Medical School. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14 at 1:30pm at The Woods of Maple Creek, 1900 32nd Street SE, Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, a donation in John's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America would be appreciated.
