John Brinch Fischer passed away on January 2, 2020. John was born to Soren and Thora Fischer, February 18, 1933, in Flint, MI. He and his sister, Marion, grew up in the Civic Park neighborhood in the growing city of Flint, Michigan while their Danish immigrant parents, father Soren and mother Thora, worked in the Chevrolet plant and laundry businesses respectively. He was a graduate of Flint Northern High School and received an Associate's degree from Fint Community College along with a General Motors apprenticeship in tool and die. An early Oldsmobile Rocket 88 hotrodder and factory troubleshooter, John was a fearless tinkerer, mechanic, and builder. From remodeling old farmhouses, cottages, and farms and engineering complex tools for manufacturing, he was a creative force to be reckoned with. In the mid-sixties, he started his own company, Duramold, with partner Bill Vuillemot in Flushing Michigan, which he eventually grew into a formidable tool engineering and design company with over 20 employees. At Duramold, he mentored many, young and old, to find the best in themselves. Somehow, on top of all that, he enjoyed many hobbies that included customizing trucks, attending NASCAR races, sailing, horse ranching, and antique collecting. John loved being involved in his children's, grand children's and great grandchildren's lives, including their education, art, dance, sports, careers, and families. He didn't miss an opportunity to try new things. He taught his children to ski, hike, sail, care for animals, and build monster trucks and robots, as well as explore the world on long road trips. But most of all, he taught them to be life-long learners, to be patient with others, and to love one another. John is survived by his sister Marion Eyster, previous wife JoAnn and long-time companion Bunnie Striggow, his children; Laura Fischer, William Fischer, Susan Bonner, Susan Becker, Robert Becker, Sandra Huntman, Todd Huntman, his grandchildren; Andrew Spiece, Annette Spiece, Jacob Spiece, Monica Smarszcz, Sam Smarszcz, Anna Huntman, Dylan Fischer, Edward Becker, his great-grandchildren; Kayla Spiece, Kiera Spiece, Daniel Spiece, Quentin Ortega, Lillian Breedlove, and his best friend Jeff Killewald. There will be a memorial service announced at a future date.
