October 18, 2013 Service: October 22, 2013 Arbanas-John Arbanas, age 81, of Grand Rapids went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 18, 2013 after a courageous battle with dementia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Lena(Dugean) and his parents Frank and Eva Arbanas. He is survived by his son Daniel, brother Bronko (Anna) Arbanas , of St. Georgen, Germany; sister Zrinka of Zagreb, Croatia; niece, Zrinka (Peter) Lubusch and their daughter Christina of Germany; cousin Robert Arbanas and daughters Cathy (Scott) Nowak and Joni (Dale) Ralph and faithful friend, Jim (Ginny) Cronover. John was born Sept. 28, 1932 in Male Dragae, Croatia. His Uncle John and Aunt Dorothy Arbanas of Wayland, MI were instrumental in getting John to the United States and becoming a US citizen. He was a devoted father and husband and was much loved by his friends, family and co-workers. John was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Assembly 2210 and was elevated to Sir Knight. He was a retiree of General Motors Diesel Equipment Division and an active member of UAW Local 167. He enjoyed UAW activities, traveling, camping, model trains, artwork and will be remembered for his sense of humor and making others laugh. Funeral Services will be held at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo SE, on Tuesday, October 22,2013 at 11:00 AM with the family meeting friends at 10:00 AM. Entombment Resurrection Cemetery.
