Obituary

Jocelyne Abboud Semaan of Grand Rapids, Michigan, (formerly of Bekfaya, Lebanon), age 73, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, February 19, 2021. She was born to Abboud and Fadwa (Farran) Nasrallah on May 11, 1947, in Lebanon.

Jocelyne was the sixth of seven children born in Lebanon. They were a loving family who traveled the world and lived between France, Senegal, Jamaica and Lebanon. Their transient lives took each of them to all corners of the world, but no matter the distance they built their lives and raised their families with the same love and fervor for friends and family.

Jocelyne was married to Emile Semaan, who immigrated to Grand Rapids, MI to join his sister. Emile met Jocelyne's mother, Fadwa, at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and used to drive Fadwa and her sister to Church on Sundays in the 1970s. Fadwa introduced Emile to her daughter Jocelyne and the two began what would be a 43-year marriage.

Jocelyne loved to sit in the sun, especially at the Jamaican beaches with her sisters. Her tremendous love for life and her positivity always radiated through her smile and her works. She loved to snuggle her daughter, son, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She loved to host parties, to sing at Church, to travel the world, and to tell stories. She was a devout Christian whose love knew no boundaries.

Jocelyne is survived by her beloved husband Emile; loving children Jason and Marisela Semaan, George and Suzy Barsoum; grandchildren Aliyah, Alexander, Anthony and Elena.

She was preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.

The family would like to thank the kind and dedicated staff at Spectrum Health Rehab & Nursing and Spectrum Health Hospice for their care and compassion during Jocelyne's recent years.
