Jerry (Harris) Scalessi, age 81, of Grand Rapids went to be with her LORD on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. She was preceded in death by both Howard Harris and George Thompson; her son, Johnathan Harris; grandson, David Guiterrez; great-grandson, Johnathan Guiterrez; her parents, Chester and Margarite Whitney and her siblings, Gay and Merry Whitney. Jerry attended Grand Rapids Central High School and played in the band. She managed the family business at Phoenix Plating & Manufacturing with her father, worked at Kelvinator, retired from the United States Postal Service and worked an additional 14 years in the security field. Jerry grew up with her brothers 18-piece band practicing in her living room. Her love for music lasted her lifetime. Jerry loved reading, enjoyed researching her family history, tracing it back to England in the 1200's and spending time with her family. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors and spent many years riding her motorcycle. She attended the Old Settlers Reunion in Mecosta since 1956 leaving many memories to cherish. Her kindness extended to everyone around her and she was the first to offer help to anyone in need. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, David (Karen) Harris, Danirae Richardson (Rick), Dawn (Ron) Evans, Laura Harris, Margie (Dave) Presswood, Randy Harris, Steve Harris (Renee); sister-in-law Gladys Tardy; 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; friends, relatives, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 10, 2018 at the Lamb of God Church (57 Rena ST SW, Grand Rapids) with visitation one hour prior to service. The family would like to issue a special thanks to Teresa Johnson for a loving 40-year friendship.
