Jaunita Thompson, age 94, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on April 13, 2019 She is survived by her brother, Leonard (Shirley Wells), her son, David (Nancy ) Thomsen, her daughter, Shelley Thomsen, her granddaughter, Kristin (Aaron) Hupp, her great grandson, Cohen Hupp. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Howard (Bud) Thompson; her brothers, Harry(Vera) Wells; James (Hazel) Wells; Henry Wells Jr.; George (Jeanette) Wells; Herbert Jack Wells; Michael Wells; and her sisters, Gladys (Clarence) Groom; Alice (Harold) Allchin. She was born to Henry and Ida Wells on March 21, 1925 and grew up in Belding. Jaunita graduated as Salutatorian from Belding High School in 1943. She was the drum majorette for the Belding High School Marching Band. During World War II, she worked in the office of the Army Air Force in Greenville. Following World War II, she moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and worked as a legal secretary at Warner, Norcross and Judd. She enjoyed this position for 45 years. She married Howard Thompson May 22, 1948.They were together for 64 years, living in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They shared a passion for ballroom dancing. They danced for many years at the dinner dances at Grace Church. Sewing was one of Jaunita's passions. She was a phenomenal seamstress. She created beautiful and well tailored clothing for her family and friends, including many gorgeous bridal dresses. Forest Hills Middle Schools Life Skills classes were blessed by her sewing abilities as well. Jaunita volunteered as a teacher's aide in the sewing portion of these classes for 12 years. She received the Ben Emdin Award for her service. Jaunita was a faithful member of Mayflower Congregational Church for 43 years. She devoted her sewing and secretarial skills to the church. She used her short hand skills as secretary of the Mayflower Council for 10 years. A memorial service will be held at Mayflower Congregational Church May 23, 2019 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Michigan who provided excellent and compassionate care for her at the end of her life.
