Born in Richlands, Virginia on March 8, 1957 Janet Lee Potter (Tackett) passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 8, 2025.
Janet lived a life defined by love, kindness, and service to others. She devoted her career to Grand Rapids Public Schools, where she worked as a paraprofessional and touched countless young lives with her patience, warmth, and dedication.
She was deeply involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, where she found both purpose and fellowship, and was proud to celebrate 13 years of sobriety. Her strength, perseverance, and generosity inspired those around her, leaving a legacy of compassion and resilience.
Janet cherished life's simple joys like spending time with friends, enjoying a cup of tea, and surrounding herself with butterflies and angels, symbols of transformation and grace that reflected her own spirit.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Richard Potter; her children, Paul (Kara) Potter and Jessica (Arif) Sisman; and her beloved grandchildren, Brody, Cohen, Gage, Grady, Lincoln, Melissa, and Beaumont. She is also survived by her brother, Robbie Tackett (Judy) and sister, Bethany Butler. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jackie and Loe Jean Tackett and sister, Sandra Darlene Tackett.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Avenue SE, Kentwood MI from 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m. and 2:00–4:00 p.m.
