James David VanTil II, age 69, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, went home on June 26, 2026. Jim was born on June 17, 1957 to James and Virginia (Hall) VanTil. 

Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of the outdoors, music and movies, his tenacity and drive to help those in need. His passion for life was bigger than most people’s. 

Jim is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cari, his daughters Michelle (Dennis) Soule, Jamie VanTil. Jennifer (Alex) VanTil, Chloe VanTil, siblings Robert (Pam) VanTil, Peter VanTil, Daniel VanTil, Patty Grzezak, Chris Zuehlke, grandchildren and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia VanTil, his sister, Melissa VanTil, his sister-in-law, Theresa VanTil, and his nephew, Jason VanTil. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim’s life and remember how, whether working or playing, he filled his life with energy, strength and devotion on July 27, 2026 at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, MI 49508 from 5pm to 7pm. 

Those who knew Jim will remember his 32 years at Gordon Food Service where his team excelled year after year, earning him respect and honors. He had a way of leading by example - never asking more of any team member than he would of himself.
