IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Lawrence
Soltis
November 6, 1949 – July 23, 2024
James L. Soltis, adored and loving husband, father, Papa, brother, and loyal friend, passed away peacefully at home with his family. He will forever be loved and missed.
Jim is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mikki; his son Michael and wife Kerry, their two children, Lyla (11) and Julian (9); and his daughter Emily and her two sons, Eli (7) and Owen (5.) Jim is also survived by his sisters, Carol, Jay and Donna (in-law); his brothers, Ray, Doug and Mike (in law); the Moray and Cavinaugh cousins, and many longtime friends.
Jim was a good human being to his core. While physically measuring 5 feet 6 inches, his inherently selfless and compassionate character made him stand taller than most. He was honest and direct, kind and accepting, generous and thoughtful. He saw the good in people and assumed mutual respect. Those who knew Jim were better because of him.
Graduating from Florida State College of Law, Jim Soltis was a proud FSU Seminole. His critical thinking and his love for the law made him a respected and valued attorney with the Michigan Court of Appeals for 25 years, serving as both Research Supervisor and Commissioner of the Court.
To say that Jim Soltis was well-read is a vast understatement. His interests and knowledge were boundless: world history, politics, art, literature, and music topped the list. He remained a news junkie, invested in the world around him, until the day he died.
Music was always essential to Jim's existence. He enjoyed listening constantly and loudly. He was a humble musician who played multiple instruments (violin, dulcimer, guitar, and the family favorite, harmonica.)
Jim loved to see others laugh, regularly entertaining his family and friends with his quick wit and sense of humor. He believed laughter and fair communication were essential to healthy relationships. To Jim Soltis, his family was everything and he made sure we all knew how loved we were.
A joyful celebration of Jim's life will be held in the Spring of 2025 (date to be determined) as this was golf season, Jim's favorite.
