Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of James Joseph Kastelz, a beloved
husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on November 29, 2025, in
Grandville, Michigan, at the age of 75. James was born on May 19, 1950, in Detroit, Michigan,
to Edward Kastelz and Helen Olmetti, who instilled in him the values of kindness, humor, and a
deep love for family.
James grew up in a vibrant household where laughter and joy were abundant. He graduated from
Rogers High School in 1968 and pursued further education at Davenport University, laying a
solid foundation for his future. He dedicated a significant part of his life to serving his country as
a Lieutenant Colonel in the Michigan National Guard. His commitment and service were
recognized when he was awarded the prestigious Legion of Merit Medal in 2008, a testament to
his leadership and dedication to duty.
In 1984, James married the love of his life, Tanya Kastelz. Together, they built a warm and
loving home filled with the laughter of their children. James was a devoted father to James
Kastelz II, and his daughter, Jacqueline Kastelz, who is married to Jacob Ross. He cherished the
time spent with his family and took great pride in their accomplishments.
James is survived by his loving wife, Tanya, who has been his partner in life and love for over
four decades. He is also survived by his siblings, Thomas Kastelz, John Kastelz, Adele Krhovsky
and he was preceded in death by his brother Edward Kastelz who shared both childhood
adventures and adult memories that will forever be cherished. His legacy continues with his
cherished nieces and nephews: Edward Jr, Thomas, Nick, Kreg, Erin, Kristina, Alexandra,
Markia, Jessi, and Elise, all of whom adored their uncle and will carry his spirit forward.
James had a zest for life that was contagious; he loved the outdoors, exploring nature, and
sharing meals with family and friends, often bringing laughter to the table with his quick wit and
humor. He was known for his love for food, always seeking out the best dishes to savor
alongside those he loved.
His professional journey took him from military service to a successful career in fiber optic sales,
where he was respected and admired by colleagues and clients alike. Jame's work ethic and
sense of humor made a lasting impression in every role he held.
The family will honor James's life with a celebration of life on January 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM,
held at Grace Bible Church in Grandville Michigan. Friends, family, and all who were touched
by his spirit are invited to join in celebrating the extraordinary life of James Joseph Kastelz, a
man who embodied love, dedication, and joy.
