James R. Hojnacki, age 87, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 23, 2024, with his family by his side. Jim (Hojo) was born on June 21, 1936, in Grand Rapids, MI. He was a graduate of Catholic Central HS and had a Business degree from Aquinas College. He was a specifications writer for the majority of his career and instrumental in the Grand Rapids Chapter of Construction Specifications Institute for over 40 years.
Jim was an Army veteran and very involved with the local Catholic War Veterans post. He was a devout Catholic and played an important role in the rebuilding of St. Mary Magdalen Parish after a catastrophic fire. He was very passionate about bowling and golfing, enjoying both into his 80's. Most of all, Jim was a friend to all, putting himself whole-heartedly into whatever he did or whomever he touched.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Carole, his parents Marion and Bertha, His mother-in law Madelon Neiberger, and his aunts and uncles. Surviving include his brother Gerald, sister-in-law Sarah (Mickey) Hinton, aunt Leslie Kraft, children Darla (Mark) Crawford, Robert, Darcy (Tom) Ford, "adopted" daughter Lynn (Jack) Wittey, his grandchildren Shawn (Jessica) Crawford, Stefannie (Patrick) Whitlatch and his great-grandchildren Lillian and Austin Whitlatch, Michael and Emmett Crawford, Blake, Trini and Heaven Ford, many beloved cousins, close friends and business acquaintances.
Visitation will be held June 6, 2024, at Ofield Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 6-8 pm and a Memorial Mass will be held June 7, 2024, 11:00 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church with a live-streaming option for those unable to attend. Private interment will be held at a later date.
Memorials can be made to the CSI Scholarship Fund or the St. Mary Magdalen Music Department.
