Obituary

Jim Herrmann, 68, of Kentwood, was released from daily pain on Sunday, October 13, after a long illness.

Jim was born in Grand Rapids to Benny and Marilyn Herrmann. He was a long time Kentwood resident after his parents moved the family there in the 60s, and Jim (given the nickname Luke by his school buddies - as in Cool Hand Luke) kept his connection to the community with his own family setting up residence there.

Jimmy is survived by his lovely wife of 41 years, Rosalie, and his cherished daughters, Mary Rose Herrmann (Jacob Gilsbach) and Leeann Herrmann Sadler. He absolutely adored being Grandpa to Mary and Jacob's daughter, Charlie (Charlotte Rae). Jim is also survived by sisters Deborah (Thomas) Markham of Fort Myers and Denise Saganski (Allen Clark) of Kentwood. In addition, Jim will be remembered by in-laws Almer and Roberta Dieterman, Thomas Braciak, Brenda Leak, and Darla (Dave) Lyon, along with several nieces and nephews & a boatload of very special friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Benny and Marilyn Herrmann, and his eldest sister, Mary Rose Braciak, to whom he donated a life-extending kidney in 1979.

Per his wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Ofield Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 22, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life service. Feel free to come and share your special Jimmy / Luke stories.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Planned Parenthood, Faith Hospice, The National Kidney Foundation, or The American Heart Association. Our entire family wishes to thank the staff of Faith Hospice for their care and concern during Jimmy's final journey.

One final piece of advice from Jim: "VOTE FOR HARRIS/WALZ!"
