James "Jimmie" Earl Gardner, age 75, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, went to be with his Lord on Friday, March 11, 2022.

Jim was born on March 1, 1947, to Jack and Ardis Gardner in Portland, Michigan. Jimmie, as many knew him as, had a passion for cooking, gardening, and being outside as often as he could. He spent many years as a Purchasing Manager for Thornapple Valley. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Israel and across the United States. Jimmie lived in Southern California as a Property Manager; then returned back home to Michigan to be close to his two grandchildren who were the light of his life. He helped start the AIDS task force in the 1980s and with Hospice, spent many hours at the bedside of patients in their final moments when no one else would. Jim's compassion and empathy was a trait unmatched. He would sacrifice his last dollar if needed, performing a number of self-less acts that would put you first. He persevered through extraordinary circumstances, believing no task was too small or impossible. Jimmie's quick wit and humor stayed with him throughout his entire life. He would talk to you with humor and grace in every conversation you had and that made it great!
In his final days, he was surrounded by family and close friends. Jim is survived by his beloved son, Brett, daughter-in-law, Stephanie, grandchildren, Blake and Brooke, and many close friends. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the entire ICU staff at Mercy Health Hauenstein for their compassion and tender care to Jim after suffering a severe stroke.
