IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Bernard
Gaier
April 3, 1930 – July 6, 2021
GAIER - Gaier, James B. April 3, 1930 - July 6, 2021. James (Jim) Bernard
Gaier, born in Sidney, OH passed away peacefully in Grand Rapids, MI on July
6, 2021 having lived a life full of love from many friends and family. Jim was
preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Betty Dorner Gaier.
Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. He worked
for General Motors as an electrician for 39 years. He enjoyed many years as an
antique dealer, attending numerous auctions and estate sales across the state.
Jim will forever be remembered as a gentleman who exhibited respect and
genuine interest in others. He was ever curious with many hobbies, including
carpentry, gardening, cooking, and antiques. Jim was an exemplary grandpa,
connecting with each grandchild in a special way. He made us laugh with his
quick sense of humor and mischievous nature. The twinkle in his eyes said it all!
He modeled resilience and optimism. While "Grandpa Jim" will be missed dearly,
we have peace knowing that he and Betty are together again, laughing and likely
sharing a PBR.
Jim is survived by his stepdaughters, Jamie (Doug) LaFleur and Jacqueline
(Peter) Franklin, five grandchildren, Cameron (Kara), Brandon and Chloe
LaFleur, Hilary (Tyler) Low and Davis Franklin, and his two great
granddaughters, Kemi LaFleur and Eleanor Low. He is also survived by Betty's
brother, Tom (Carol) Dorner and several nieces and nephews who loved him
dearly, Melissa (Vince Molseed) Dorner, Steve (Kim) Dorner, Jeff (Kay) Dorner,
and John Jr. (Brenda) Dorner, and Jodie Dorner, and their children, Alex,
Benjamin, Colin, Drew, Nora and Mitchell.
A private family memorial service will take place, date to be determined. In lieu
of flowers, donations may be made to the VA Medical Center, Community &
Volunteer Services, 5500 Armstrong Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037 (add
"Wyoming Clinic Fund" in memo line of check).
