Obituary

James F. Fraher III, 73, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on December 11, 2021. He was born on March 30, 1948 to James and Leokadia (Lucy) Fraher in Frankfurt, Germany. Jim earned his bachelor's degree from Otterbein University in Ohio. He earned his commission in the United States Air Force and served from 1971 through 1973. He then transferred to the Air Reserves and achieved the rank of Major before retiring in 1994. Jim enjoyed much success in his career as a salesman for Appleton Paper and Xpedx, and as Vice President of Sales for Carpenter Paper Company. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish and the Knights of Columbus. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Karen Pence Fraher; children, Kristen Thome, Kerri Jensen (Shawn), Katherine Fraher, and Jonathan Fraher; grandchildren, Isiah Sims, Jamisen Thome, Jonathan Thome, Annabelle Fraher, Ryan Jensen, and Alivia Jensen; brothers, Richard Fraher (Molly) and Frank Fraher (Tracie). Jim believed in God, family, and country above all else. He instilled these morals and values in his family. Jim was a great mentor and teacher and was especially adept at sharing his wisdom and life experiences with people around him. He enjoyed walks in nature, spending time with his grand kids, and spreading love to all he encountered. Jim loved his family with his whole heart and dedicated his life to taking care of them. Jim was a living example of what a God fearing man and leader should look like to his friends, family and all he encountered. He will be deeply missed and will forever be remembered and honored for his mentorship and loving guidance.
