Obituary

James Gerard Brower

1959–2026

James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and craftsman who passed away on February 12th, 2026 at the age of 66.

He was the beloved husband of Katherine, with whom he shared nearly 39 years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on family, resilience, and shared adventures. He was a proud father to Kaitlyn, Madelyn, and Dylan, and a loving grandfather to Declan, Aiden, Delaney, Alro, Arren, Aldwin, and Adelyn, who brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Agnes, and his brother Charles. He is survived by his siblings Nancy, Suzanne, Ellen, Jeffrey, and Steven, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

James spent his working years as a carpenter, a trade that allowed him to shape and build many beautiful homes. He took pride in working with his hands and in the lasting impact of his craftsmanship.

He found peace and happiness along the shores of the Great Lakes, enjoying all they had to offer—sailing in his younger years, putting his toes in the sand, searching for Petoskey stones, and simply listening to the sound of the waves. Some of his family’s happiest memories were sailing in the 1990s on his father’s boat, beach days with his grandchildren, camping trips, river days, firework shows, Home Depot runs, and those long drives on the back roads. He didn’t go anywhere without his furry companion, Nora, by his side.

He will be remembered for the memories he helped create, the homes he built, the waves he listened to, and the love he carried for his family.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer months, just as he would have wanted. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to The Salvation Army.
