IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jacqueline Joyce
Saunders
January 3, 1925 – December 5, 2018
Jacqueline Joyce (DeHamer) Saunders 1/3/1925-12/5/2018 Born in 1925, Jackie was the youngest of three daughters born to Herman and Johanna DeHamer in Grand Rapids. She graduated from Union High School in 1943, and subsequently married her classmate Don Saunders upon his return from serving in the Merchant Marines. She worked for a time at the Grand Rapids Public Library. Daughter Carla came along, followed by son Mark. In later years, Jackie worked at Michigan Mutual Insurance, where she met her dearest and best friend, Carol Walters. Volunteering was important to Jackie, as she belonged to a guild at Butterworth Hospital and enjoyed delivering mail and flowers to patients for many years. The Women's City Club was another of her interests, where she helped organize fashion shows, and served as an officer for a number of terms, forming several lasting friendships. Jackie was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Johanna DeHamer, her sisters Caroline Blain and Phyllis DeHamer, daughter Carla Baldwin in 2000, and husband Don in 2006. She will be dearly missed by Mark and Susie Saunders, son-in-law Dan Baldwin, special niece Pixie Blain, great-nephew Brett Blain, as well as other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. We appreciate the loving care Jackie received at Railside Living Center. Cremation has taken place, and a private memorial will be held at a later date. As Jackie was an avid lover of cats, any donations may be made in her name to the Humane Society of Kent County.
