Ireene Mae
Bright

Ireene (Miles) Bright age 98 of Kentwood passed away on January 25, 2016. Ireene was born April 11, 1917 in North Dakota. She was the last survivor of twelve siblings. Ireene graduated from Teacher's College in North Dakota and taught school there for 10 years in a one room school house. Ireene was preceded in death by her husband Herman, and son Patrick, a Marine Lance Corporal. Ireene's family moved to Saginaw in the early 1950's. In addition to teaching, Ireene worked at the family owned grocery store, was the admitting clerk for St. Mary's Hospital for many years, and became a Shaklee Distributor with a great following of customers. Ireene pursued many interests after retirement. She was an active member of Gold Star Mothers and enjoyed traveling and seeing much of the United States. Ireene actively participated as a member of Kentwood Seniors and especially enjoyed being a member of the choir and planning and participating in the 4th of July parades and activities. Ireene enjoyed life and found many ways to spend her time. In addition to being an avid reader, Ireene had several hobbies, she enjoyed ceramics, gardening, and liked the challenge of making new recipes and creating crafts. Ireene's love of learning and teaching skills were put to good use by volunteering at Kentwood elementary schools tutoring students and reading to classes. Ireene is survived by her son Michael (Faye) Miles of Kentwood, her daughter Kathleen (Patrick) Richter of Interlochen, MI., and daughter- in- law Jane (Miles) Unger (Las Vegas). Also surviving are four grandchildren: Rachel (Mike) Ebach of Traverse City, Chris (Kim) Miles of Lowell, John (Jessika) Richter of Lancaster, PA, and Laura (Jeff) Mislevy of Gulf Breeze, Fla. Following Ireene's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will have a private memorial service honoring Ireene on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Ofield Funeral Home.
