Dittemore, Hugh 6/28/2021 Grandville Hugh (Ronald) Dittemore, age 75, passed away on June 28, 2021. He was the son of Hugh E. and Esther M. Dittemore of Westhampton Beach, NY. Hugh graduated from Westhampton Beach High School in 1964 and Drury College in 1968 with a degree in history. He earned his Master's from Ohio University in 1975. Major Hugh Dittemore was a proud Army veteran, beginning his career at Fort Hamilton, NY, in 1968. After graduating from OCS training at Fort Belvoir in 1969, he was stationed in Thailand and Germany during the Vietnam War. He was later stationed at the Pentagon. He finished his military career working as a Korean Specialist in Korea and the U.S. until his retirement from the Army in 1988. Major Dittemore received the Joint Service Commendation Medal and the Army Commendation Medal for his exemplary leadership. After his distinguished military career, Hugh worked a variety of jobs, including ROTC at MSU and retiring as a social worker. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, VFW and the American Legion. He regularly donated blood (265 times, totaling 33 gallons) to the Versiti Blood Center and volunteered at the VA. Hugh married Stephanie (Eliason) in 2003 and was a devoted husband, grandfather and friend. He brought love, laughter and song to everyone. Hugh is survived by his wife Stephanie, stepsons Jeff (Elizabeth) Rudd and Jason Rudd, sisters Diana (David) Young and Barbara (Jim) Knopke, numerous nieces and nephews and three grandchildren. Hugh's life will be celebrated on Monday, July 5 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at 5751 Del-Mar View (clubhouse), Wyoming, MI 49418. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the VA, VFW or Versiti Blood Center.
