We mourn the loss of Helen Marie Abbasse, who died on December 6th, 2021, at the age of 90. Helen was born on September 5, 1931 to Alexander and Dorothy Ash in Orkney, Saskatchewan and then moved to Windsor, Ontario where she grew up before she was married.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ahmed Abbasse, and sons, Randy, Kevin and Christopher.
Helen was a devoted wife and mother to four boys. She was passionate about providing her family with love, support, and kindness. Along with raising her family, Helen worked for Spartan Stores for over twenty years. Helen and Ahmed enjoyed entertaining and welcoming both family and friends into their home. Delicious home cooking, laughter and kind hearts could always be counted on at Abbasse gatherings. Helen had a special relationship and bond with her mother that demonstrated the strength of family that Helen worked to pass on to her children and grandchildren. Helen will be fondly remembered by all the lives she has touched throughout her life.
She is survived by her brother, James Ash of Toledo, Ohio, her son Darin Abbasse (Dana) of Lake Orion, MI, Daughter in law Linda Abbasse (Kevin) of Grand Rapids, MI, as well as four grandchildren: Joshua Abbasse, Jaime Felber (Rich), Kirstyn and Claire Abbasse.
Visitation for Helen will be on Saturday, December 11 from 11-12:30 with a time of sharing at noon at Ofield Funeral Home (4500 Kalamazoo Ave., Kentwood, MI 49508). The burial will follow at 1:30 pm at Fairplains Cemetery (1105 Knapp St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505). In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Helen's honor to the Alzheimer's Association. Service Details. Visitation
