IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harry Allen
Barwin
September 3, 1949 – October 29, 2021
Harry A. Barwin, of Byron Center, Michigan, age 72, passed away on October 29, 2021, due to complications from Covid-19. He was born to Karl and Nellie Dixon Barwin on September 3, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan.
Harry is survived by his wife, Jacquelyn, of 29 years, daughter Rebecca, and step-daughters Grace and Laura, as well as his brother Donald, and two sisters Irene and Norma. He was preceded in death by his parents Nellie and Karl and two brothers David and Karl Jr.
A Vietnam veteran, Harry proudly served his country and his incredible strength and dedication to excellence was shown through all his actions. After his time in the service, he moved back to Grand Rapids and worked for his father for a few years at Thorn Apple Valley Meat Processing Co, before becoming the maintenance supervisor at the Bun Basket, a local GR bakery. After 14 years, he retired at the age of 55 to be with family and attend all of Rebecca's school events.
Harry was a do-it-all handyman; electrical, plumbing, builder - you name it, he had done it before. He was always just a phone call away when someone's furnace would stop working, or if someone needed help building a deck, he was there. Harry was reliable, honest, and had the biggest heart when it came to family.
Harry and Jackie spent every summer camping with the girls, and after retirement, bought a motorhome. They liked to travel to Sault Ste Marie to visit the big boats, and even camped out in rural Michigan just to be with each other and enjoy the outdoors. During his free time Harry loved to relax in the family sun room, play sudoku, sketch up the next plan to improve the house, and pack up food to send to Rebecca on trail.
He was a compassionate and loving husband and parent, selfless and always available and happy to help. A lover of all things Star Trek, Superman, and Seinfeld, Harry was quick to laugh and smile. He taught his daughters everything they needed to know to be strong and self-sufficient.
Never one to speak a harsh word, Harry was a gentle soul and an absolute blessing to all those he met. He will be deeply missed. A celebration of life will be planned for immediate family Saturday, November 6. Service Details.
