Obituary

Harold "The General", "Newt" Jay Nauta, age 101, passed away surrounded by family
Wednesday, June 14, 2023 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.


He was born to Herman and Carrie Nauta on October 11, 1921, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He
married Doris Rypkema at Camp Pickett in Virginia on June 23, 1944. He was a veteran of
World War II. For his service, he earned a bronze star. He served honorably in the Army,
achieving the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he worked as a truck mechanic.
He established Honda Village in 1963 and owned it until his retirement in 1998. He was happiest
spending time with his family and friends.


Harold is survived by his children; Robert (Susan) Nauta, and Barbara (Mike) Dixon;
granddaughter, Kellee (Dennis) Partridge; great-grandsons Gabe, Noah, Theo and Brody
Partridge. Also surviving are his lifelong best friends, Jack and Aletha Goodale and their
children; friends Michael Cook and Sherri Noe; extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 74 years, Doris.

The family would like to thank Jill England, the staff and residents of Holland Home, and Faith
Hospice for their friendship and care.

A private service will be held.
