Obituary

Gregory Allen McNeil transcended to the next reality on August 29, 2022, at Butterworth/Spectrum, Grand Rapids, MI. Born in Saginaw, MI, August 12, 1963, to Larry and Virginia Campbell McNeil. Despite having difficulties in life, he made the best of it by graduating Martin High School class of 1981, in Martin, MI and joining the U. S. Navy.

Anyone who knew Greg, knew he marched to his own drumbeat. Among the things he loved was Smokey the cat, his Harry Potter collection, his recumbent bicycle and he was getting back to ham radio, something he discovered while a teenager when he got his first license.

Greg attended ITT and Grand Rapids Community College, studying electronics and CNC machining.

He spent his life working in manufacturing and held a special interest in tool and die. Because of ill health, he took early retirement but that did not stop him from pursuing his expertise in computers. He helped many, find, setup, and trouble shoot their personal computers. His life while at the Veterans Home in Grand Rapids gave him friendships that lasted up until his death.

Greg leaves his mother and stepfather, Virginia L. and Charles W. Siffert; one sister, Kimberly A (Rick) Hill; brother, Ronald S. (Joanna) VanDyke; step sister, H. Susan (Bruce) Idema; and step brother, David W. (Maria) Siffert, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Others that mourn his loss are his close friends, Cheryel Ware and Howard Snow.

Free from his physical struggles, Greg has joined his father, Larry G. McNeil; stepmother, Florence McNeil; stepfather, Jerry C. VanDyke, and stepsister, Alison L. VanDyke.

Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in Traverse City, MI at a later date.

A Celebration of Life will be held, October 29, in Grand Rapids.
