Gerald (Jerry) E. Brune, Grand Rapids Michigan, formerly of Midland, age 78, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2019. He was born to Glenn and Charlotte (Hawley) Brune on March 18, 1941 in Belding, MI. Jerry spent the majority of his adult life in Midland, MI retiring from the Dow Chemical Company after 35 years of service. He relocated to West Michigan in 2016 to be closer to his family and enjoyed making many special memories with his grandchildren. Jerry loved spending time chatting with family and friends about anything and everything. He also enjoyed playing and watching golf, playing cards, and watching thoroughbred horse racing. Jerry had a deep appreciation for the beauty of water, especially Makapuu Beach near his sister Linda's home in Kailua, Hawaii where he spent many hours over the years watching the sea turtles and body surfers enjoying the waves. Jerry is survived by his daughters Lisa (Bruce) Gustafson, Christine (Herb) Elder, Angela (Phil) Long, and grandchildren Erik Johnson, Sean, Katie and Jacob Elder, and Zachary and Sophia Long. He is also survived by his sister Linda (Russell) Sakamoto and several nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jeff. Jerry's wishes are being honored by the family gathering to celebrate his life at a beautiful spot overlooking Lake Michigan in lieu of a traditional funeral service. He also requested that a check be sent to his golf buddies to cover burgers and beer in memory of their fun times together, and a happy hour will be hosted in his honor at American House in Grand Rapids where he was blessed with many new friends while living there the last three years. Special thanks to the staff of American House, and the Faith Hospice team for their special care of our special Dad, a truly memorable man who was dearly loved.
